One color postcard of the Midtown Detroit cultural area. The elevated view looks northward along Woodward Avenue and shows the street, parked cars, several houses, and trees in the lower foreground. The Detroit Public Library can be seen in the left background with the Detroit Institute of Arts building visible in the right background. The 12-story Park Shelton Hotel can be seen in the center background just beyond the Art Institute property. Various other commercial, residential, and office buildings can be seen in the far background. Small black printed text along the upper edge of the postcard reads "518: - Woodward Ave., Showing Public Library and Art Institute, Detroit, Mich." Small blue printed text on the verso reads "Woodward Avenue enjoys the unusual distinction of being both Detroit's leading business and residence street. It is named in honor of Judge Woodward, one of Detroit's foremost citizens in the pioneer days, and stretches approximately north and south. At the foot are the ferry docks where boats leave regularly for Windsor, Ont., Belle Isle, and Bois Blanc Island."
