Double Deck Trolley
Postcard with a color photo of double deck tram car number 14, formerly of Burton and Ashby Light Railways, in service on West Jefferson Avenue beside Hart Plaza as part of the Detroit Citizens Railway heritage trolley line between the Renaissance Center and Cobo Hall. The conductor poses at the front of the car. A yellow pages advertisement is beneath the car's upper deck. Printed on the verso:
Double deck trolley--The Detroit open-top double deck tram car was built in 1904 and was common in the streets of north London, England. It was purchased by the Michigan Bell Telephone Company and brought to Detroit becoming one of only four streetcar systems in the world to operate open-top double decker tramcars. Photo by John Penrod.
As on the verso is a handwritten message from conductor Phillip Brunelle to Barbara Flanagan of the Star Tribune about his desire for a similar trolley system in Minneapolis, and about an upcoming performance by his Plymouth Music Series choir, postmarked March 7, 1988.
