G.A.R. Building Detroit, Mich.
119-B
Postcard, published by A.C. Dietsche, bearing a colorized photographic image of the G.A.R. Building as viewed from the intersection of Cass Avenue, Grand River, and Middle Street to the southeast. Awnings advertising cigars and news are hung along the lower level of the building's southeast corner. Pedestrians, a horse, and background buildings are also visible. An American flag--which appears to primarily be the work of an artist's hand rather than part of the reference photo--flies at the top of the building. The sky is tinted in blue and peach.
The verso is divided, with the preprinted caption on the left:
119-B. Memorial Building G.A.R. corner Cass and Grand River Avenues. Built by the City of Detroit at a cost of over $50,000 and given to the Incorporated Posts of the Grand Army of the Republic for the use of the Soldiers and Sailors of the War of 1861 to 1865.
The message area on the right is unused.
