The James Scott Memorial Fountain in Belle Isle Park stands as a monument to James Scott, a citizen of Detroit, who died in 1910 and left the bulk of his fortune to the City. The fountain was designed by Cass Gilbert and cost $500,000, the City expending over $100,000 for reclaiming land and developing the site surrounding the Fountain. A statue of the donor of magnificent proportions faces the fountain. Work on the fountain was commenced in July, 1921, and the formal dedication took place on May 31, 1925. Diameter 510 ft., height 37 ft. 9 in., height of main water column 125 ft.
