Printed on verso: Discernible from almost every part of Belle Isle Park, this memorial monument is close to the orchestra shell, where open air concerts are a feature of the summer season. Belle Isle was purchased from the Indians in 1780 for it is said, 8 barrels of rum, 6 pounds of paint, 3 rolls of tobacco and a belt of wampum.
