World War II poster with the message, "A Careless Word ... A Needless Sinking." The poster shows a color drawing of lifeboat full of seamen in the foreground. They are rowing away from their wrecked ship which is in flames in the background. The artist's name, Anton Otto Fischer, can be seen in the lower left corner of the drawing. Small printed text along the bottom edge of the poster shows "OWI Poster No. 24. Additional copies may be obtained on request from the Division of Public Inquiries, Office of War Information, Washington, D.C." and "U.S. Government Printing Office: 1942-O-502219." The poster is mounted in a black metal frame with a white matte and glass.
