America, the hope of all who suffer - the dread of all who wrong
World War I poster with the quotation: "America the hope of all who suffer - the dread of all who wrong" The title quotation is attributed to [John Greenleaf] Whittier. The poster shows a multicolor drawing of nurse, an old man, a soldier, two women, an infant, and a dead boy. The women in the background are bound with rope to a German Iron Cross and are pointing to the title text. The artist's name, "[Herbert] Paus," is shown near the lower left side of the drawing. Additional large printed text along the bottom of the poster shows "Save Food and Defeat Frightfulness." A shield emblem is shown at the lower edge with text that reads "United States Food Administration." Small printed text at the lower right corner shows "The Strobridge Litho. Co., Cincinnati & New York."
