"The Ford transport is probably the best known of all airplanes. The achievement of Ford tri-motor in safely carrying Rear-Admiral Richard E. Byrd and his crew from his Little America base on the Ross Sea to the South Pole and back was enough to give the Ford plane world-wide recognition. Its reputation as an aerial passenger carrier, however, is founded rather on its long record of reliable operation on passenger transport routes in North America and the freight and express routs of the Ford Motor Company."
