Proclamation

Proclamation, on board, issued by Mayor Louis C. Miriani on March 1, 1958 in honor of the three hundredth birthday of Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. The proclamation is signed by Mayor Miriani and is stamped with the Seal of the Mayor of the City of Detroit. The text of the proclamation is as follows:

"Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac Tri-Centennial
March 2nd to 8th, 1958

Whereas, Detroiters are proud of their early French heritage, and of the many landmarks, place names and institutions which stem from the French founding of Detroit by Cadillac in 1701; and
Whereas, It is fitting on this historic occasion that we salute the Republic of France, and the towns of Cadillac's birth and death in France, both as a symbol and renewal of the traditional bonds of friendship which have remained unbroken for so many centuries; and
Whereas, We are happy to have His Excellency, Herve Alphand, Ambassador of France to the United States, as our special guest of honor for this commemoration;

Now therefore I, Louis C. Miriani, Mayor of the City of Detroit, by the power in me vested, do hereby proclaim the week of March 2nd to 8th, 1958, as
"Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac Tri-Centennial Week"
in Detroit, during which period I call upon all our citizens to honor the memory of the founder of our City and to participate in the observances commemorating Cadillac's birth in St. Nicholas de la Grave in France on March 5, 1658.
