1994[sic] Det. Auto Show, 12-10-94, Tape 1
U-Matic S tape containing footage shot of cars and displays at the 1995 North American International Auto Show in Cobo Hall, and of Mayor Dennis Archer touring the show with U.S. Ambassador to Japan Walter Mondale and U.S. Trade Representative Mickey Kantor. Despite slight changes in level from scene to scene, the audio remains faint and difficult to discern throughout the tape.
The tape begins with a series of shots of cars and displays at the auto show. This section features NASCAR driver Randy LaJoie's Pontiac Grand Prix, the Pontiac Trans Am convertible, the Ford Explorer, the Pontiac Trans Sport minivan, the Pontiac Sunfire, the Ford Probe, the Ford GT90 concept, the Pontiac Grand Prix, the Lincoln Continental, the Lincoln L2K concept, the Gillet Vertigo, the Bugatti EB 110, the Lotus Esprit, the Chrysler Atlantic, and the Plymouth Backpack concept.
In the next portion of the video, the camera follows Mayor Dennis Archer as he speaks to press, meets members of the public, and tours the show floor with Mickey Kantor and Walter Mondale. The stop in several positions around the floor including the Dodge Neon display and a platform atop a Center for Creative Studies exhibit that overlooks the Chrysler area.
After filming Kantor and Mondale leaving in their van, the camera crew returns to the show floor. They shot an AC Ace, an AC Cobra, the Mitsubishi Spyder, and the Mitsubishi Eclipse.
Brief remnants of a tutorial video for a Headstart program child tracking database software package from Opcom Inc. are at the beginning and end of the tape.
The video is on a 3M UCA-30S U-Matic S tape with "1994 Auto Show" handwritten on a City of Detroit Department of Public Information Video Production label, and "Courville Choir 'Wind Beneath My Wings' 10 21 93," handwritten directly on its shell. The tape is housed within a latching black plastic case with a Department of Public Information spine label.
