U-Matic

20 sec. P.S.A. Shopping Area

U-Matic tape containing three spots promoting the Neighborhood Shopping Days campaign held between July 18th and 21st, 1985. The first and third spot are both thirty seconds in length and feature b-roll showing various neighborhood shopping districts with only minor variation. The middle spot is twenty seconds in length, and only features title cards and a voice over.

The first spot begins with a pair of shot of storefronts on the northeast side of Grand River Avenue west of Greenfield Road (from tape 2015.008.250), followed by a man making a purchase at a hardware store (from tape 2015.008.250), people walking along the center of Bagley Avenue southwest of 23rd Street (from tape 2015.008.254), and a clerk helping a man find a suit inside a men's wear store (from tape (from tape 2015.008.250). A title card and voice-over then lists the ten participating shopping areas: Bagley Avenue, Civic Center East (Kelly-Whittier), Dexter/Davison, East Warren/Outer Dr., Grandgreen, Gratiot/7 Mile, Livernois/Seven Mile, Redford Is (Grand River-Lasher), Vernor/Junction, Vernor/Springwells, and Virginia Park. The spot ends with a second title card featuring the "Do It In Detroit" logo modified to include a star that reads" Shop Where You Live."

The second spot features only the title cards from the previous spot, accompanied by a voice-over.

The third spot is similar to the first, but cuts from the final title card to a shot of the "Do It In Detroit" sign in the window of Underground Men's Wear in the Grandland Shopping Center (from tape 2015.008.250).

The video is on a 3M UCA-5 U-Matic tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top. The tape is housed in a black plastic latching case with a matching label on its cover.
