Food Spoilage.

U-Matic tape containing recordings of television news clips, recorded over a tape of Ethnic Festival advertisements, several of which survive at the end. The news stories concern the resolution of a conflict between the City of Detroit and the United States Department of Agriculture concerning payment for a supply of surplus food that spoiled in Detroit warehouses.

The first segment is from WDIV reporter Gerald Harrington. He interviews Barbara Parker of Mayor's Emergency Relief Fund, and state school superintendent Philip Runkel. The broadcast is anchored by Margie Reedy.

The second report comes from WXYZ-TV's Jim Herrington. He visits the demoliton site of the former warehouse, speaks to Parker, and visits the office for the mayor's Emergency Food Hotline. The segment is anchored by Doris Biscoe and Rich Fisher.

A series of commercials for Riverfront Ethnic Festivals from the Detroit Recreation Department follow. The advertisements feature dancers in folk costumes in Hart Plaza, and are set to an instrumental version of the Four Tops' "Be A Part of the Heart of Detroit."

The video is on a UCA-5 U-Matic tape with a Department of Public Information Label. The tape is housed in an unlabeled grey plastic case.
