U-Matic tape containing the Sue Marx-produced film "Campaign '85," made for Mayor Coleman A. Young's reelection bid. The video is narrated by Mayor Young and features him visiting recent developments around the city.
The video opens with footage of Coleman A. Young speaking at the press conference announcing the expansion of Cobo Hall, on the 25th anniversary of the building's opening. A montage follows showing aerial footage and ground level-footage of downtown.
Coleman A. Young is then interviewed in Eastern Market, where he discusses shopping there as a child, and comments on its "damn good food." The interview is intercut with shots of Young interacting with the market's vendors, and a developer planning a ground breaking for a new retail space in the market.
Young then provides a voice over about the Millender Center, over shots of him visiting the construction site. He talks about the expansion of downtown.
Next Sheridan Place apartments spotlighted. Young is shown talking to residents underneath audio of him talking about the building.
Next, Young mentions Trappers Alley. He is shown walking through the complex and interacting with members of the public. One woman serenades him.
Young's narration then turns toward the city's neighborhoods. He mentions the Gratiot-Seven shopping area and is shown visiting it. Then over footage of him talking to residents, and people fixing up houses, he talks about homes.
Then, Young is shown addressing police cadets. He mentions the calling back of laid-off officers, and the large number of new incoming officers.
The film ends with Aretha Franklin, Levi Stubbs, and a choir performing a song about Mayor Young, incorporating his "Power for Tomorrow" slogan over a montage of Young interacting with Detroiters and of "Power for Tomorrow" billboards.
The video is on a 30-minute U-Matic tape with a printed General Television Network label on its top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching case with a matching label on its cover. A sticker on the case's spine is marked "Reel #24."
