Tape 2

U-Matic tape containing a the second portion of a recording (continued from tape 2015.008.058) of the press conference announcing the redevelopment of the Alexander Young Terrace Apartments at 457 East Kirby Street in the Art Centre neighborhood, which was formerly occupied by the Great Lakes Mutual Life Insurance Company. The stage and podium are set up beneath a park shelter, presumably in Peck Park. The event is attended by master of ceremonies Jackie Holloway, Mayor Coleman A. Young, Art Centre Citizens District Council administrator Wright Mitchell, Buxton Management Company president Robert Rhue, City Planner Hilanius H. Phillips, Buxton Management Company consultant Ken Roberts, and State Senator David S. Holmes.

The tape begins with Jackie Holloway taking the podium from Ken Roberts. She tells the audience about the reception at Wildlife Field and Stream Building following the ceremony, and then introduces Rev. Horace Sheffield for the closing benediction. Sheffield praises Mayor Young, then gives a prayer.

The tape then cuts to Mayor Young surrounded by reporters with video cameras, microphones, and cassette recorders. Young's press secretary Bob Berg stands beside the mayor recording his answers into a cassette recorder. The audio during this segment is poor, and Young and the reporters are difficult to hear over the sounds of the crowd.

After the reporters leave, Young begins shaking the hands and speaking with other gathered members of the crowd.

The video is on a 3M UCA-30s U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching clamshell case with a handwritten 3M label on the cover.
