U-Matic
Greek Festival 5-30-88
U-Matic S tape containing footage of dancers shot of at the 1988 Greek Festival in Hart Plaza on May 30th.
The tape begins with a shot of a pair of dancers in Greek folk costume dancing in front of the Dodge Fountain. Vendors' stalls are set up around the plaza in the background.
Following a cut, a large group of dancers perform several routines in the amphitheater area to pre-recorded music.
Afterward, another group of dancers-this one from St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Southgate-performs in the amphitheater. During one routine, the male dancer performs as an old man in need of a cane.
Next a group of all-male dancers performs for a single brief shot. This is followed by a shot of three women in dancing attire filmed from a low angle against the sky.
Then yet another dancing group performs in the amphitheater. They are followed by a brief shot of a boy and girl who dance wearing contemporary clothing.
A large group, clad in folk costume, dances next.
Following a brief cut, the members of the all-male dance group from earlier on the tape stand in front of Dodge Fountain and recite the line "Geia sou [hello], come on down to Hart Plaza and enjoy the Greek Festival" in several takes from different angles
The recording is on a 3M UCA-30s U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching case with a matching label on its cover.
