U-Matic
"Master Tape" Christmas Holiday PSA's
U-Matic tape containing five holiday season public service announcements from the City of Detroit. The first is for Noel Night in the Cultural Center on December 11, 1985, and features carolers and a pan across a light display. The second is for the 24th Annual Christmas Carnival at Cobo Hall, and features motorized figures in displays, puppets, and Santa Claus with Mayor Coleman A. Young. The third and fourth spots end with the text, "Happy Holidays from the City of Detroit," and feature a variety of city workers waving to the camera, including mounted police officers, utility workers, firefighters, and bus drivers. The final spot promotes the Do It In Detroit Shopping Days, between December 7th and the 12th, at retail centers around the city, and is composed of a voice-over against a static title card.
The audio is mixed so that the voice-over is in the right channel and the background audio and music are in the left channel.
The video is on a 3M UCA-10 U-Matic tape with a typewritten City of Detroit Department of Public Information label on its top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching clamshell case with a matching Department of Public Information label on its cover. Both labels are dated November 11, 1984, and include the program:
Noel Night 00:00:30 for use thru 12-5
Christmas Carnival 00:00:30 for use thru 12-19
Happy Holidays I 00:00:30 for use thru 1-2
Happy Holidays II 00:00:30 for use thru 1-2
Do It in Detroit Days 00:00:30 for use thru 12-12
The case also includes a letter from Sandra West, Supervising Publicist of the Department of Public Information, addressed "Dear Public Service Director," dated November 20, 1984, and reiterating the broadcast schedule listed on the tape and case's labels.
