U-Matic

Mexican Fest 1990 Singers

U-Matic S tape containing footage shot of mariachi bands at the 1990 Mexican Festival in Hart Plaza, followed by a brief video clip and audio recording of a series of voice-overs for public service announcements about the 1990 Census.

The tape begins with a band performing on the covered stage in the amphitheater area. Next, at Hart Plaza's ground level, members of a vocal group walk through the festival past vendor booths and Dodge Fountain. A man looks through a garbage can in the foreground of the Dodge Fountain shot. Near the spiral-ramped ventilation tower, the group stops to perform an acapella song.

After a brief gap in the tape following the Mexican Festival footage, the camera pans across a 1990 Census form.
Following a lengthy gap in the recording, a man, woman, and a young boy named Cliffy perform a voice recording test over a black screen, before the man begins recording a series of five short voice-over segments for a 1990 Census public service announcement identified as P.S.A. Number 2.

The spots are on a 3M UCA-30S U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching case with a handwritten City of Detroit Department of Public Information Video Production label on its cover.
