The spot begins with a shot of two boys playing basketball, the reacting when the narrator mentions the contest's $300 prize. The narrator explains the contest can be entered by students who can "rap, give a speech, draw, or write" over shots of a past award ceremony. The title card at the end of the spot provides the phone number to request an entry form, and states that students of both the Detroit Public Schools and private schools are eligible.

The recording is on a 3M UCA-20 U-Matic tape with a printed City of Detroit Department of Public Information Video Production Label on its top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching U-Matic case with a matching label on its cover.
