Pistons Boys #2 Parade 6-15-89
U-Matic tape containing footage shot of the Detroit Pistons victory parade on June 15, 1989 in downtown Detroit. The tape is continued from 2015.008.030, and spans the arrival of the final two floats, and the ceremony on the bridge spanning Larned Street at Woodward Avenue. The camera is positioned on Woodward Avenue, just south of West Larned Street.
The video begins with shots of the crowd, the Afrikan Drum and Dance Community performing at the end of the route, and of Pistons players, and officials waiting on the bridge with Mayor Coleman A. Young. Cheers erupt from the crowd as Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn make their way beside the barricades to the foot of the bridge. The Ann Arbor Trail School marching band makes their way south on Woodward Avenue, past the camera.
The camera then cuts to another parade float, this one decorated with a model of the Renaissance Center, silver streamers, black and white balloons, and banners with the team's colors. Mark Aguirre and John Salley ride on this float. Salley dances, gestures to the crowd, and tosses a roll of toilet paper from the float.
After another cut, the camera focuses on Joe Dumars, Isiah Thomas, and Chuck Daly, who ride at the rear of a float decorated with a large globe of the Earth. The camera continues to roll as the team members on the bridge wave to the crowd, dance, and take part in the crowd's chants of "Bad Boys." Members of the crowd wave to the camera as it pans across them.
Eventually team announcer George Blaha begins to address the crowd from the bridge, as the event's master of ceremonies. He then turns the microphone over to Bill Davidson, the team's owner. Pistons general manager, Jack McCloskey then speaks. He is followed by the team's scout Will Robinson. Chuck Daly then addresses the crowd. He is followed by Mayor Coleman A. Young, who elicits both cheers and jeers from the crowd. The mayor presents Isiah Thomas with a resolution honoring the team. Thomas takes the microphone as balloons are released. A representative from Chrysler then recognizes Joe Dumars with the season's Most Valuable Player. Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson briefly speaks to the crowd. John Salley is then called to the microphone, and he greets Mayor Young then leads the crowd in another Bad Boys chant along with Rich Mahorn. Thomas returns to bid the crowd farewell, and the final shots capture the crowd in front of the Spirit of Detroit statue.
The video is on a 3M UCA-30s U-Matic S tape with a small handwritten label on the top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching clamshell case with a handwritten 3M label on the cover.
