U-Matic

Polish Festival, 8-11-89

U-Matic S tape containing footage of at the 1989 Polish Festival of Detroit in Hart Plaza on August 11th.

The tape begins with a lengthy series of shots of the items on display in Hart Plaza's Ethnic Gallery. Traditional clothing, szopkas, a Christmas tree, wood carvings, an image of Pope John Paul II, prints of dancers, and dolls in folk costumes are among the things shown. A woman is filmed holding up the event's poster for the camera in the gallery.

The camera then moves outside for a series of shots of women in folk costume--including one wearing a "Miss Polish Festival of Detroit" sash-standing beside the beer tent.

Then, in the amphitheater area, the DynaTones, a polka band, perform, while some members of the audience dance. The band's set includes the song "She Likes Kielbasa Polka." Several dancers dance with a young girl. The camera also gets several zooms showing the crowd shot with Renaissance Center in the background.

The recording is on a 3M UCA-30s U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching case with a City of Detroit Department of Public Information Video Production label on its cover.
