U-Matic S tape containing silent b-roll shot for the video "'E.T. Tourist' The Visit," produced by the City of Detroit's Department of Public Information for Media Day 1990. The footage features exterior shots of the institutions of the Cultural Center, restaurants and theaters along Woodward Avenue to the south, and finally restaurants and clubs in the Rivertown Warehouse District, east of downtown. The tape also includes some interior footage of the Detroit Historical Museum.

The first portion of the tape focuses on the Cultural Center. The tape opens with a series of shots of the exterior of the Detroit Institute of Arts. Banners outside of the museum advertise the exhibits, "American Paintings from the Manoogian Collection, March 27 - May 27," and "Detroit Public Schools Student Exhibition, April 1 - 29." Groups come and go from the entrances, and the camera gets shots of sculptures on the museum's grounds, including Rodin's "The Thinker."

The camera then moves to the west side of Woodward Avenue, near Kirby Street for shots of the exterior of the Detroit Historical Museum and the Detroit Public Library Main Branch. Here, the camera gets shots of a group entering the Detroit Historical Museum, a University Cultural Center directory sign on the lawn of the library, the bust of Nicolaus Copernicus also on the library lawn, Detroit Institute of Arts streetlight banners, the Detroit Public Library's sign, people coming and going from the library, and several more distant shots of the Detroit Institute of Arts. A banner hung above the entrance to the Detroit Historical Museum promotes the exhibit, "Under the Skin." Robert Darmanin of the Department of Public Information is filmed walking to and from the entrance to the Detroit Historical Museum.

The next section of the tape shows the interior of the Detroit Historical Museum. The segment opens with footage shot in the gift shop in Round Hall. The camera next moves to the automotive exhibit in Dodge Hall. Here two adults show a group of children the 1935 Stout Scarab (1964.215.001). The camera also gets close-ups of the 1901 Huntingburg Wagon Works Roadster (1975.019.001), the replica of Charles Brady King's 1896 car (1957.160.001), and an exhibit panel accompanying the Huntingburg.

The camera then moves back outside for a series of shots along East Kirby Street. Here the camera films a woman sitting in a parked van, Tony Smith's "Gracehoper" sculpture on the lawn of the Detroit Institute of Arts, John Kearney's "Silverbolt (Detroit Horse Power IV)" on the lawn of the Children's Museum, and the exteriors of the Children's Museum and Detroit Institute of Arts.

After another cut, the camera is repositioned in front of the Museum of African American History on Frederick Street for shots of its exterior and sign.

Next, the camera moves to the exterior of the Detroit Science Center. Shots follow of the museum's sign, Steve Veresh's sculpture "Mobius Solid, Two Sides Two Edges," a group of children near the window overlooking the neon-lit escalator, the view of the escalator, and children peering through the hole in the Veresh sculpture.

Several shots follow of the exterior of the Scarab Club on Farnsworth Street, including close-ups of the Pewabic scarab relief above its entrance. A Detroit Police Department Mounted Police Division officer is then filmed riding past along John R Street. After the initial shot from Farnsworth Street, the camera gets an additional shot of the officer from a moving car on John R, near Warren Avenue, then again from on foot just before Hancock Street.

Next, the camera shoots the signs in front of the Hilberry Theatre, the awning and historical marker outside of the Whitney, the exterior of Union Street, the stained glass window and awning outside of The Gnome, and the Majestic Theatre and Garden Bowl's signs. A Miller Lite delivery worker and truck are also filmed outside of the Majestic Theatre complex.

The camera then moves to the area around Orchestra Hall for shots of the Orchestra Place park, a window display promoting the Tchaikovsky Festival, and Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall signage on the hall's window.

Outside the Bonstelle Theatre, the camera then gets shots of a poster for a production of "On the Razzle," and the awning above the entrance.

Next, the camera moves to the main entrance of the Fox Theatre, for shots of the marquee sign promoting Frank Sinatra's concert with Tom Dreesen, and of the "Detroit's Finest Entertainment" neon sign above the doors.

The final part of the tape contains scenes of establishments in the Rivertown Warehouse District. Shots follow of the signs and exteriors of the River Rock Café, Captain's Restaurant and Bar, the Soup Kitchen Saloon and Restaurant, Pete's River Place, Rhinoceros, Taboo, Rivertown Saloon, and the Woodbridge Tavern. The tape ends with several shots of the St. Aubin Marina. The camera gets the marina's sign and docks, as well as several shots of a passing motorboat.

The recording is on a 3M UCA 30S U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top, marked "Media Day Project Footage Tape #1. 4-19-90." The tape is housed within a black plastic latching case with a matching label on its cover, marked
