B-day Greeting to Mayor C.A.Y.
U-Matic tape containing a birthday message to Mayor Coleman Young from Thomas Hearns and Emanuel Steward, footage of the Bel Air Shopping Centre parking lot, and a WDIV Eyewitness News segment in which Mort Crim interview Mayor Coleman Young.
The tape opens with a portion from a television commercial for attorney Gary Bloom. Afterwards, footage begins from Thomas Hearns' training camp in Phoenix, Arizona. Hearns is filmed outside, and is noticeably short of breath. He explains that he is training for his match on June 6, 1988 (against Iran Barkley), and wishes the mayor a happy birthday. Next, his trainer Emanuel Steward gives a brief birthday message.
The birthday greetings are followed by footage of the Bel Air Shopping Centre parking lot. Here, the camera pans around the lot. Shoppers, Toys R Us, the lot's satellite building under construction, Kids R Us, and Farmer Jack are featured prominently. The camera operator also interviews an unidentified woman about her experiences shopping at Bel Air; she responds favorably about the mall.
Finally, the tape cuts to the last installment of Mort Crim's five-part profile on Mayor Coleman A. Young on the occasion of the 70th birthday, wherein the mayor is asked to evaluate his performance in office. The full series is available on tape 2015.010.082.
The video is on a 3M UCA-30s U-Matic S tape, with no label and "Thomas Hearns & Emmanuel Steward written directly onto the tape casing. The tape is housed in a 3M black latching case with a label that reads "Thomas Hearns Emmanuel Steward B-day greeting to Mayor C.A.Y."
