Cruise For Women Only 1990

VHS tape containing camcorder footage shot at WKQI Q95's "Cruise for Women Only" event aboard the Boblo boat COLUMBIA on August 21, 1990 featuring Michael Bolton and the band Rumplestiltskin.

The tape begins with a close-up of a pin from the event, accompanied by the camera's time and date stamp. Afterward a group of women--one wearing a Bolton t-shirt and a handwritten sign--are filmed waiting at the dock near the Detroit Marine Terminal building. A florist van and a police officer are also filmed at the dock.

Following shots of Q95 banners on the side of the COLUMBIA, the camera moves on board, where people set up and decorate the boat's dance floor in preparation with banners, balloons, and a stage. The dining area is also shown set up with a banquet table and dining tables.

Michael Bolton is then filmed boarding the boat. The camera then pans from his limo, to the adjacent STE. CLAIRE and to people on deck of the COLUMBIA. From back on board the boat, the camera pans across the long line of women lined up at the dock below. The camera also catches the passengers of a passing speedboat.

With the event underway, the tape the features shots of the passengers in the dining area, another passing boat, a woman showing off her C.J. Barrymore's jacket monogrammed to "Michael." Finally Bolton is filmed re-boarding the boat. After a shot of the Ambassador Bridge and a sounding on the whistle, the camera pans across the dance floor and stage as Rumplestiltskin can be heard performing parts of several songs including Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative."

Next Q95 DJ Kevin O'Neil talks to the crowd, and mentions that the Chippendale dancers will be performing. Afterward Rumplestiltskin is taped as Rumplestiltskin covers M.C. Hammer's "U Can't Touch This." The next segment on the tape has another DJ bring O'Neil and several of the station's other personalities out before he introduces Michael Bolton. After Bolton takes the stage, the film cuts to the crowd chanting his name, and then to Rumplestiltskin performing again.

After several more shots of women getting autographs from the performers, the view from the boat, and Rumplestiltskin covering "U Can't Touch This" again, the camera captures a view of the dock as the boat approaches. Bolton is filmed leaving the boat as the crowd cheer. Following shots of the women leaving the boat, the tape ends with several shots of workers on the boat after the cruise.

The videos are on a BASF T-160 VHS tape with handwritten labels along its top and side. The tape is housed within a red BASF cardboard sleeve.
