Detroit River Cannon Recovery
Oct. 1, 1987

VHS tape containing footage shot of the recovery of three cannons from the Detroit River near Cobo Hall on October 1, 1987. The project members include divers Mal Sillers and Nick Martines, as well as Dossin Great Lakes Museum curator John Polacsek. The camera rolls as they depart from the Rouge River on a barge equipped with a crane pushed by the Gaelic Tugboat Company's WILLIAM HOEY. The tug meets with the mail boat J.W. WESTCOTT II, and the camera is briefly transferred to the WESTCOTT for some external shots of the barge and tug. The camera captures the raising of the three cannons from the river, as well as their initial cleaning as the team checks for identifying marks. Also included in the video are shots of a WDIV camera crew interviewing Polacsek, and conversations between members of the crew after the recovery.

The video is on a Scotch T-120 tape with a handwritten 3M label on its side. The tape is housed within a black plastic 3M T120 sleeve.
