1 - Commemorative medal worn by Spanish-American War veteran, Joseph Hoffman. The medal has a brass eagle, shield, and wreath at the top with a ribbon consisting of a small vertical 13 star American flag on a light blue background. At the lower end of the ribbon, there is a crossed rifle/sword/cannon/anchor design and a hanging circular brass medal. The medal shows a cross with a raised design and text: "Spanish War Veterans 1898-1902 Philippine Islands Cuba Porto Rico U.S.A." A laurel wreath is shown along the perimeter. The reverse shows a similar cross with the letters, N, E, S, and W. The word, "United," is shown at the center.
