Medal, Commemorative
1 - Commemorative medal worn by United Spanish War Veteran (USWV), Joseph Hoffman. The medal has a brass eagle, shield, and laurel wreath emblem at the top with a small silk 13 star American flag that is hanging vertically below the emblem. At the lower edge of the flag, there is a brass emblem of a cannon barrel, crossed swords, and an anchor. Beneath this emblem, there is a brass cross with embossed text: "Philippine Islands Cuba Porto Rico U.S.A." and " Spanish War Veterans, 1898-1902." The reverse side of the cross shows letters for the four principal compass directions, "N, E, S, W," and a shield emblem with the word, "United."
