Tube, Vacuum

One Vidicon television camera tube, model number 8507A, made by General Electric; one Plumbicon television camera tube, model number 55875, made by Amperex; and one television camera image chip. The vacuum tubes and chip are made of glass, metal, and/or plastic and contain assemblies of precision-made parts that were used to capture images from a television camera lens and convert them to electrical pulses.

The tubes and chip are mounted on a 3/4-inch thick wood display plaque that has decorative routered edges and has been finished with dark brown stain and a semi-gloss lacquer or varnish. The display shows the evolution of technology from the large vacuum tubes of the 1950's-1970's that were eventually replaced by the semiconductor image sensor chips of the 1980's.
