Wheel, Steering

Partial ship's helm: Leather-bound wooden post with a ring hoop on its side and teeth carved into each end alongside exposed nails, presumably intended to support the ship's wheel. Recovered from the wreck of the early freighter EBER WARD, which sank in the straits of Mackinac on April 20, 1909, with five lives lost.
