1916: 33rd Infantry of Michigan National Guard. Expedition against Pancho VIlla

1917-1919: U.S. Army. First lieutenant. Officers training camp at Ft. Sheridan and sent to France. Attended Frech Warfare School for American officers. 166th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Aisne-Marne, Saint-Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne offensives. After war served with the Army of Occupation on the Rhine in Germany until return in 1919.

1919: became assistant prosecuting attorney of Saginaw County

1922: Elected prosecuting attorney, served two terms
1927: Assistant Attorney General of Michigan
1928-1930: Attorney General of Michigan
Secured first radio communication equipment fo rthe Michigan State Police
House of David case in Supreme Court and won.

1931-1932: Governor of MIchigan
1933-1937: Law practice in Detroit
1937-1954: Partner in law firm of Clark, Klein, Brucker & Waples
