In 1865 Richard H. Fyfe started out in business independently , being able to take this course through the industry and economy which he practiced. He purchased the shoe house of C.C. Tyler & Co. , the successor's of the original employer, Mr. Adams.
In 1875 he erected at 101 Woodward Ave., a substantial 5 story building in order to meet his constantly growing trade. In 1881 he purchased the boot and shoe establishment of A.R Morgan, 106 Woodward Ave. and for some time conducted this business as a branch of the original store. In 1885 he erected the magnificent Fyfe Building overlooking Grand Circus Park.. the largest shoe store in the world.
