Print, Photographic

Print. Black and white photographic print, taken from an elevated vantage point, of the construction of the eighteen story addition of The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store on the corner of Woodward and Grand River Avenues. The steel frame structure rises adjacent to the intersection; cranes are visible above the frame. Scaffolding covers the sidewalk, and is affixed with signage and an image of adjoining structure. Signage reads, "THE GREATER HUDSON STORE, PLANNED BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IN A GREATER DETROIT." Also noted are the architects, Smith, Hinchman and Grylls, as well as the general contractors, "Bryant and Detwiler Co." Flatbed trucks are visible, parked on Woodward and Grand River, and carry construction supplies. Pedestrians are also visible on the sidewalk and crossing the intersection. The photography studio and the geographic location are embossed on the recto, "Manning Bros., Detroit." Also, the photographic sequence number is printed on the bottom of the recto, "89802."
