Three men in matching suits and hats, presumably Department of Public Works employees, stand near the walkway in front of City Hall; one of them poses with a lawnmower. Horse-drawn carriages along Monroe Avenue and the buildings of the Monroe Block are in the background. "Detroit, Mich." and "For D.P. Works 148 Wood. Ave" is printed along the edges of the card in an ornate typeface. "1870s" handwritten on verso.
