Certificate awarding the Silver Star to Edward Edgar Hartwick, dated April 2, 1927. The text of the certificate is as follows:
"The United States of America
To all who shall see these presents, greeting:
This is to certify that the President of the United States of America pursuant to act of Congress approved July 9, 1918, has awarded Edward E. Hartwick a Silver Star for gallantry in action against Spanish forces at Santiago, Cuba, July 1, 1898, while serving as second lieutenant, 9th Cavalry, United States Army.
Given under my hand at the City of Washington this Second day of April, 1927."
Signed by Dwight F. Davis, Secretary of War and recorded in the office of the Adjutant General and signed Robert C. Davis, Major General, the Adjutant General.
