Handwritten letter of introduction written by Lewis Cass, and addressed to Martin Van Buren, regarding James Witherell. The letter reads:
Detroit Dec. 18, 1823
My dear sir,
Mr. Witherell, the bearer of this letter, has requested an introduction to you. I give it to him with much pleasure, because his character, and conduct and acquirements have attached me to him, and because wherever he may form acquaintances, he will be valued and esteemed.
