Candlestick, Religious
One of a pair of heavy brass altar candlesticks from St. James Lutheran Church, Detroit. The candlestick has a tall hexagonal shaft which has smooth, flat faces. The shaft is mounted on a hexagonal cast brass base that has decorative matching relief designs on each of the six slanted top faces. A hexagonal cast brass bobeche is mounted at the top of the shaft and resembles a smaller inverted version of the base in shape and design. The top surface of the bobeche is flat and has a brass ferrule mounted at the center for holding a candle. The exterior surfaces of the base and bobeche have a smooth finish. A piece of unfinished wood is attached to the underside of the base with a single screw at the center. No manufacturer's name or marks are shown. A partially-used white candle (approximately 8" tall) with a brass candle follower is included.
