Vase, Flower

One of a pair of heavy brass flower vases from the altar of St. James Lutheran Church, Detroit. The stem holder portion of the vase has a wide, rounded top rim with tall straight sides that taper slightly to form a narrower bottom. A removable tin or aluminum insert is included to minimize tarnish on the brass surface. The stem holder is mounted on a hexagonal cast brass base that has decorative matching relief designs on each of the six slanted top faces. The exterior surfaces of the stem holder and base have a smooth finish. A piece of unfinished wood is attached to the underside of the base with a single screw at the center. No manufacturer's name or marks are shown.
