She has dark-colored, long, curly/wavy hair that is styled toward the back. She is wearing a plaid pattern dress with a close-fitting white collar, and a large bow at the front. She is also wearing earrings and necklace with a pendant. Black printed text on the verso reads "[Jas.] A. Brush, Photographer, Cor. Woodward Ave. and Larned Street. Entrance on Larned Street." Handwritten black ink text on the verso reads "Lavina B. Donaldson, about 1870."
(Note: A check of the photographer's address in the city directories indicates that the photo was taken in about 1874.)
