One black and white composite photograph (and one copy) of the new Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) coal dock in Lorain, Ohio. The photo shows an aerial view of the new seawalls, coal handling equipment, and railroad tracks. The channel entrance to the Black River can be seen at the left and center area of the photo. One freighter is being pulled out of the river by a tugboat. Composite sketch images of five freighters have been added to the photo to highlight the facility operations. These five sketches include two freighters at the dock in the Black River, two freighters on opposite sides of the B&O Coal Dock, and one freighter departing the Coal Dock. Various buildings can be seen on shore at the far right side of the photo. A label at center lower edge of the photo reads "B&O Railroad Company Coal Handling Facilities, Lorain, Ohio. 1947." The coal dock construction work was completed by the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation.
