U-Matic

'85 B-roll/Belle Isle
Tape #1

U-Matic S tape containing silent footage shot for the "Belle Isle, Detroit's Island Paradise" public service announcements (2015.008.012 and 2015.008.013). The tape features footage shot at the Belle Isle Safariland Zoo, outside of the Belle Isle Aquarium, and in the Dossin Great Lakes Museum.

The tape begins with the Belle Isle Safariland Zoo footage. This section includes shots of a cockatoo, flamingos, a swan, llamas, parrots, and visitors on the zoo's elevated walkways.

The next segment was filmed outside of the Belle Isle Aquarium. There are shows of people entering and entering the building, as shot from the parking lot, the aquarium's sign with an illustration of a catfish, and several pans from the sign to top of the Nancy Brown Peace Carillon.

The final segment on the tape was filmed at the Dossin Great Lakes museum, showing a man at the wheel of the steamship pilothouse display beneath the stairs at the south end of the museum.

The video is on an unlabeled MBU-18s U-Matic S tape. The tape is housed in a black U-Matic latching clamshell case, with handwritten labels on the 3M front and side stickers, as well as a masking tape label marked "0204" on the spine. A handwritten shot list is included in the case:
