U-Matic

B-roll/Belle Isle - '85
Tape #2

U-Matic S tape containing silent footage shot for the "Belle Isle, Detroit's Island Paradise" public service announcements (2015.008.012 and 2015.008.013). The tape features footage shot in the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, and at the Belle Isle Nature Center.

The tape begins with footage from the Dossin Great Lakes Museum of a man behind the steamship pilothouse display on the south side of the building. This is followed by several shots of the model ship display, the flashing fresnel lens, and Detroit and Cleveland Navigation Company flags in the museum's central gallery. A man looks at the models in some of these shots. Afterward visitors are showing looking at a display which includes the model of the wreck of the EDMUND FITZGERALD
Fresnel lens close-up. The Dossin shoot concludes with a zoom-in on the large flashing fresnel lens.

The Belle Isle Nature Center sequence begins with a gradual fade-in then zoom-out from the waterfall within one of it's displays. The camera then pans to a docent explaining the display to a family of visitors. This shot repeats several times, with the docent holding a snake in the subsequent takes.

The video is on a MBU-18s U-Matic S tape with a handwritten title directly on the side of the tape. The tape is housed in a black U-Matic latching clamshell case, with handwritten labels on the 3M front and side stickers. A handwritten shot list is included in the case:
