Saucer

China Saucer. Decorated in blue on white china, the center of the saucer depicts the "Thomas Viaduct, 1835," as indicated by a banner on its lower edge. Within train tracks make their way through the forested landscape toward a series of structures, possibly including the Viaduct Hotel. Surrounding the landscape is a leaf and floral pattern along with an exterior saw tooth pattern. The exterior band on the saucer features the same floral and leaf pattern along with blue shading and an egg and dart pattern on the outer edge.

The base of the saucer features a maker's mark of an image of a column-topped dome, flanked by the dates 1827 and 1927. Below the dome are the words, "Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Shenango, China, New Castle, PA."

This collection of blue and white china was used in the dining cars of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad during the 100th anniversary of the founding of the line. The china is styled in the manner of the Old Staffordshire China.
