Carving
One African American folk art wood carving of a hatchet. The carving was done from a single piece of medium-grained wood and depicts a hatchet blade with a short curved handle. The handle is embellished with three intricate "ball-in-a-cage" carvings. The wood has been minimally finished with an oil or stain which gives the surface a dark brown color and allows the wood grain to show.
