Carving

One African American folk art wood carving of a short section of chain with boxes at the ends. The carving was done from a single rod of fine-grained wood (possibly pine) and depicts five separate chain links with long, narrow boxes at the ends. Each box includes a half link at one end as well as an intricate "ball-in-a-cage" carving. The wood has been sanded smooth and has been minimally finished with an oil or stain that gives the surface a medium brown color.
