The photo shows a crane and workmen who are standing by as they wait for the cable to be brought ashore for lowering into an open trench in the foreground. A marine service store can be seen at the left side of the photo along with several Michigan Bell Telephone Company officials who are wearing hardhats. A Dunbar & Sullivan Dredging Company barge with a crane and cable reel are visible at the edge of the shoreline in the center background.
