Drawing

Drawing on paper, mounted on board, representing proposed changes to the Historic Fort Wayne grounds as part of a restoration project in the mid-1960s. The drawing is intended to depict the restoration plans which would result in the minimum change to the park. Along the lower portion of the drawing are the streets that are present around the Fort Wayne premises, among them Cavalry, Military, Dragoon, Livernois, Crawford, Reid, Rademacher, and Waterman. One of the proposed changes illustrated on the drawing is a rerouting of Jefferson Avenue and a proposed green triangle which would occupy the space outside of the fort gates occupied by Jefferson. An overlaid piece of paper shows the proposed building of a reception center on the northeast side of the grounds, and a U.S. Corps of Engineers area on the southeast portion of the grounds. The legend on the lower left of the drawing indicates that blue trees represent trees that are to be added, and green trees represent existing trees. Many trees to be added are represented on the upper left and right portions of the drawing, near the southeast and southwest corners of the grounds. Other proposed changes represented by the drawing include the Detroit Industrial History Museum near the riverfront, a riverfront drive, a bandstand near the parade ground, and a picnic grove or French strip farm on the southwest corner of the grounds. A ship is also depicted traversing the Detroit River, heading to the southwest.
