The Detroit Institute of Arts

Color lithograph, mounted on board, of a painting of the Detroit Institute of Arts by William A. Bostick. It is one of a series of twelve pieces entitled the "The Woods, Bricks, and Stones of Detroit, Vol. I." The piece is numbered 7/50 on the lower left and signed and dated "Wm A. Bostick 1974" on the lower right. The painting shows the facade of the building from the northwest corner. Several people are shown walking along the sidewalk and on the steps in front of the building.

A label on the verso reads as follows:

"The Detroit Institute of Arts
5200 Woodward Avenue

Designed by Paul Philippe Cret of Philadelphia, The Detroit Institute of Arts was built in 1927. The white marble structure is an example of the Italian Renaissance style. Facing it across Woodward Avenue is the Detroit Public Library, also in the Italian Renaissance style. Together they form the nucleus of the Detroit Cultural Center.
