The Wayne County Building

Color lithograph, mounted on board, of a painting of The Wayne County Building by William A. Bostick. It is one of a series of twelve pieces entitled the "The Woods, Bricks, and Stones of Detroit, Vol. I." The piece is numbered 3/50 on the lower left and signed and dated "Wm A. Bostick 1975" on the lower right. The painting shows the facade of the Wayne County Building with a view to the northeast. Rockin' Chair Buttery is shown at the corner of Congress and Randolph. Several cars are shown driving on Randolph Street.

A label on the verso reads as follows:

"The Wayne County Building
Cadillac Square

The Wayne County Building was erected in 1896-1902 at the eastern end of Cadillac Square. A magnificent example of Italian Renaissance architecture, it was designed by John Scott and Company. The exterior is faced with sandstone above a base of rusticated granite. Above the central bay are two bronze charioteer groups, and sculpture adorns the tower and pediment.
