The Detroit Public Library

Color lithograph, mounted on board, of a painting of the Detroit Public Library by William A. Bostick. It is one of a series of twelve pieces entitled the "The Woods, Bricks, and Stones of Detroit, Vol. I." The piece is numbered 6/50 on the lower left and signed and dated "Wm A. Bostick 1974" on the lower right. The drawing shows the southeast corner of the library. Several people can be seen walking near the steps in the center.

A label on the verso reads as follows:

"The Detroit Public Library
5201 Woodward Avenue

Designed by Cass Gilbert of New York, the Detroit Public Library was built in 1921. The white marble structure is an example of the Italian Renaissance style. Facing it across Woodward Avenue is the Detroit Institute of Arts, alsoin the Italian Renaissance tyle. Together they form the nucleus of the Detroit Cultural Center.
