St. John's Episcopal Church
Color lithograph, mounted on board, of a painting of St. John's Episcopal Church by William A. Bostick. It is one of a series of twelve pieces entitled the "The Woods, Bricks, and Stones of Detroit, Vol. I." The piece is numbered 3/50 on the lower left and signed and dated "Wm A. Bostick 1975" on the lower right. The painting shows the southwest corner of the Church at the corner of Woodward Avenue and the East Fisher Freeway. Two people are shown walking along the sidewalk in front of the Church.
A label on the verso reads as follows:
"St. John's Episcopal Church
Woodward Avenue at East Fisher Freeway
Designed by Jordan and Anderson in the Gothic style, St. John's Episcopal Church was built in 1861 on Woodward Avenue. Exterior walls are of limestone rubble with sandstone trim. A notable feature is the flamboyant Gothic tracery in the windows. The entire church was moved back sixty feet at the time of the widening of Woodward Avenue in 1835.
